Pretty sweet effort

Well Desperate Housewives is a sucky compelation episode tonight so I watched your flick tonight - pretty cool! Yet again I'm impressed by your hit and smoke graphics, flame and lazer shot effects - they're great! Really smooth, fluid and seamless, excellent. Some suggestions you might like to look into for the next one is to put in some colour into your ships (I'll tell you how if you're unsure), and have some music for the action sequences. I read you took the music out, but I think it'd really pick it up to have something in the action sequences at least. The ships could also use a bit of an ambient hum or something too I spose - not too loud, but something. I know you're not too interested in optimisation (I don't know why I enjoy making things as small as possible but I do) but that scene where the cargo ship is dumping cargo and stuff - that could've easily been done with a single 3d object, not a tweened ship over like 30 seconds or something - it probably made about a meg of the file size right there! Not that many people on dialup anymore so you may not care, I don't know. Noticed the stars in the background didn't move all the time there was action going on which is a pity because when they did, it was fantastic - just adds a kind of realism to the camera movement, and adds to the chaos of an action sequence. I like the detail you go into with your story, that's cool. Great work on the flash, well done getting an award :)

stabbymcstab responds:

Thanks heaps man, i know there is a lot of mistakes, and ive made most of the models for the next one so far, written the script, now i'm just putting the scenes together.

Really appreciate your review man, cant wait to see your next movie.

Meh

I couldn't even crack a smile, and I tried. Maybe I'm too old for that humour - but it seems a lit fart is not particularly original these days - and it seems you got to the punchline of your animation then decided to finish it off really halfassedly with a bunch of static scenes! Some running around while on fire, or something, would be much better. also animating the fart coming out. The sound was totally buggered for me, all went quiet and to the right speaker for a while, and the fart sound finished well before the cutting to china etc. was finished - but I assume this is just me since noone else has mentioned it.

If this is indeed your first effort at a submit it's pretty good really, but I didn't bother to submit until I knew I had something pretty decent. (It still only got 2.5 or something heh but lets not get into that). So keep it up, just remember that when you're animating flash, you'll really suffer come voting time if you ever start being halfassed. So say to yourself, 'am I doing a copout with this bit?' and if it's a yes, cut it out - do what you had in in your mind, not whats easier to animate! All the best for future efforts.

ShruggingMantis responds:

I was planning on making it a bit longer at the end, like you said. Unfortunatly, I don't know much about editting sound. All I knew how to do was make it softer or louder, so I had to keep it only 30 seconds long. Otherwise, I would have aded two more scenes to the fart and had more motion. If you know somewhere I could learn more about sound editting, please tell me.

Very nice

Nicely done FBF there - I know how long it takes, heh. I stuck with a stick, it's amazing how quick you get at it really! Anyway - great music to go along with it, a nice little story - some of your angles and movements and things were really fantastic - I just thought the graphics were sometimes pretty well, silly looking I guess. You need an awful lot of time and talent to get human characters RIGHT though so you lose no cudos there. Adding that bit of colour was a nice wee touch, I really quite enjoyed this little movie - well done!

tricolor responds:

Thanks a lot! I know, FBF is a painstaking, but it's worth it. I'm glad you liked the 3D, and I'll work on my graphics so the human proportions are better. Thanks for the advice and the review! I really value these kinds of reviews.... Cheers.

Do it.

I don't really approve of trailers, but since it seems you're just getting your sh!t together and this'll be a massive project I'll support this one. Your graphics are gorgeous - this could've used a small bit of action rather than alluding to action and never having any, even if it was just a slice at the screen or something. Anyway, beauty graphics, I think you should go for it. It'll take forever heh but maybe it'll be well worth it! You look like you've got the ability to go hard with attention to detail, and that's the kind of thing that really separates the chaff. If you can keep it up, the completed product will probably get front page, and there's like 100 000 views right there - quite a reward! Get someone with a real strong grasp on grammar to check it before you submit, a couple of missing aposotrophes in this one could detract from the perfection of the rest. It looks great, you've got a perseverence with that detail I only wish I would have heh - best of luck with an actual plotted 'episode'!

BlueEasy responds:

thanks for taking the time to write all that. Missing aposotrophes?!?! Jumpin jahosafett, I completely forgot to do a grammer check! (slaps head) thanks for pointing that out!

You were robbed

This was a great little movie! Way better than it's rating - I don't know what went wrong here, usually things're rated properly. You have a great cartoony style, it's a great little story, amusing voices, it's great! Pity you killed em off, hehe. My only possible suggestion for a better rating in future would be to crank up the frame rate to at least 18fps, maybe you could also put some buzzing fly noises in there - although they're pretty horrible. A fantastic little flash here, I'm gonna go watch the other ones in the series now - keep it up!

GUTOONs responds:

Well maybe if I name the Flys Mario, Sonic, and Kirby I'd get better reviews(lol)

Glad you liked it, thanks for the tips.

Brilliant in places

utterly crap in others, and eventually the crap bits outdid the good bits and I had to vote poorly. The starting psycadelic building was great, but the humping chick and shouting into the mic was pretty crap.

JackNicholson responds:

SHOUT-ING
LMAO!!!1!

For it's political message it's a winner.

I don't even click on Clock movies anymore, and when I accidentally get one I hurt myself. As far as I'm concerned the only things that can pull off that stupid robot voice is Pube Muppit, whose comedic value can't be underestimated, especially when you're absolutely trollied. Ah, the number of times I've wiped tears of laughter from my eyes over the years due to Pube Muppit.. twice. Your box makes a good point, go box!

Zac37840 responds:

Square Block is angry...For Blocks and Boxes are at war. *End of Sarcastic Voice*

Alright

Not too bad, delivery of the dialogue was a bit slow for my tastes. Maybe you should apply yourself and make something impressive, if this did only take one night. Your peices of frame-by-frame were well timed and effective. I spose I really should learn how to do fuzzy things myself heh. Any pointers would be apprechiated, if you can be bothered. I assume you got an A?

KenSkaii responds:

the dialogue was slow. but there wasnt anytime to fix much, also, everryone in my house was sleeping, so i almost had to whisper

Not bad

Could use a faster framerate to spice it up a bit more, simplicity when super smooth is stunning to watch.

Gate-keeper-girl responds:

It was animated in 22 fps, but I liked the look of 18 fps better.

Very Entertaining

This is a fine example of sound making a flash fantastic. Your voices are great - the Wilson Coconut reminded me of Michael Jackson heh. Fantastic effort here, totally amusing. Great sorta slapstick with the Moose too, and having a moose shaped mouse hole - great work again!

AssassinDrake responds:

I just try to do what makes me laugh and a duck bulling a moose makes me laugh. Coconuts make me laugh too.
Coconuts.

Thanks for the review!

I'm not putting my lips on that.
